Presented on October 5, the investigation led by Gilles Kepel in Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil (Seine-Saint-Denis), a suburb of the Republic,established a link between social and geographic banishment of certain neighborhoods, and development of Islam in populations that combines French and immigrant newcomers.

Religious practices are they, by nature, a symptom of social malaise? The opposition between Islam and the Republic is relevant? How secularism is included in these neighborhoods? Four scholars of Islam, Tareq Oubrou, Frank Fregosi, Dounia Bouzarand Samir Amghar, describe changes that affect Islam in France today. If they point to the dangers of a “cancerous religiosity”, supported by some ultra-Orthodox streams, they also defend the relevance of the 1905 Act in response to the emergence of Islam in society. And, faced with the Islamization of the new generations of inbreeding or persistent, call for a nuanced approach to understanding a multifaceted phenomenon. READ MORE HERE
