Air Passengers Data: Europe concerned about personal privacy, signed new deal with U.S.

In order to protect personal privacy of european citizens, the European Union and the United States last week initialed a deal on the transfer of air passenger data that would, if adopted by the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers, supplant an existing deal that took effect in 2007.

The new deal calls for the transfer of 19 data types from airline databases to U.S. authorities and includes several new elements, many of which were crafted to allay European concerns about personal privacy.
