Romania : Police integrity could be tested by undercover officers

Police officers undergoing voluntary lie-detector test

The Interior Ministry in Romania wants to use undercover officers from the General Anti-corruption Directorate (DGA) to test the integrity of police officers, according to a draft order.

The undercover officers will be sent especially in ‘areas vulnerable to corruption’ such as the border police or the road police.

The ministry’s draft order has been put up for public debate.

Analysts said that -in order to improve this initiative- all undercover officials should have a integrity screening using a polygraph test (lie detector), at least once every two years.
