Hungary´s strongman PM Viktor Orban likened EU with Soviet tyranny.

Hungary´s leader PM Viktor Orbán, delivered stinging critics against the European Union on Thursday, likening EU bureaucracy to Soviet tyranny, and declared the need to defend the country from foreign domination, like  Hungary did in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Locked in dispute with Brussels for more than a year over several topics like  economic policy, the central bank, media freedoms and the judiciary, Orbán put himself on a collision course with the European Union. This will not help to Hungary in the government´s attempts to secure credits of €20bn (£17bn) to keep Hungary afloat.

Addressing tens of thousands of supporters on Hungary’s national day, Orbán accused the EU of illegitimate interference in the country.
