European Security News.- The burial ceremony of Russia’s mafia boss Aslan Usoyan (Ded Hasan) took place at Moscow’s Khovanskoye cemetery without any incidents, Russian Interfax reports.

Russian security forces today arrested several leaders of post-Soviet organized crime (russian mob). The detained were “capos mafiosi” related to the mob families that worked for the now assassinated Godfather, russian Grandfather Hassan.

According to the Ministry of Interior in Russia, the mobsters meeting should decide the issue of the ‘coronation’ of three kingpins from Belarus to the mobster status of ‘vor v zakonye‘(thief in law, who obeys the thieves code).

Vor v zakonye is a criminal who is “respected, has authority and a high ranking status” within the criminal underworld in the old Soviet Union and its successor states, such as Russia, Bielorussia, Ukraine, etc… Thieves in law are the elite of the Post-Soviet world of organized crime. According to various Russian news sources there exist hundreds of organized units which retain independence in their actions. Estimates concerning the number of “Vory zakonye” throughout the world range from several hundred to over 10,000. As said, “thieves in law” are drawn from many nationalities from a number of post-Soviet states.

In total, during the special operation of the Moscow police, who received the tip-off on Friday, the police arrested 23 Mafia members celebrating a meal at an exclusive restaurant in Moscow.
The meeting was called after the death earlier this month of the godfather of the Russian mafia, Aslan Usoyán, alias “Ded Hasan” (Grandpa Hasan), who was killed by a sniper in the heart of Moscow, leaving a power vacuum in organized crime.

Among those arrested were two russian “vor v zakone”  with nicknames “Timoja” and “Kostil” and two Belarusians, “Pashtet” and “Teddy “.

Precisely, “Pashtet” was in possession of drus (1.5 grams of cocaine) so police also opened a criminal record for drug possession.

“The other leaders involved in crimes enlightened never have been photographed and never have their fingerprints taken before,” the Ministry of Interior said to media.

According to police sources , both Pavel Aleksievich “Pashtet” and Alexander Medvedev as “Teddy Bear” are prominent capos of the Oniani Clan.

The russian mafia main sources of income are: drug trafficking, weapons, minerals extraction and illegal gambling.

Oniani, alias “Taro”, who is serving prison time  is the leader of the mafia clan called Kutaisi (name of Georgian city).

According to press reports, the conflict erupted when Oniani tried to snatch Hasan fromthe  control of gambling business in Moscow and take command of the companies that formerly belonged to the leader of the Russian-Georgian mafia in Spain Zajar Kalashov , alias “Shakro Molodoi “.

Oniani is considered by the local press as much more violent than assasinated Grandpa Hassan and so does another southern mafia kingpins, Azerbaijani Rovshan Janíev.

Deputy Irina Yarovaya official, head of the security committee and Fighting Corruption in the Duma, denies that the violent death of Hassan assumes a return to the bloody mafia war that rocked the country after the fall of the USSR, in 1991.

Russian police said today in its statement that during their struggle against the Mafia and organized crime “twelve” vor v zakone ‘were arrested  during 2012.
